Born June 14, 1951 near Irkutsk into the family of a serviceman.
Graduated from the Historical Faculty of the Gorky State University. Trained under Zguridi
A.M. graduated from the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography.
Worked for television in Gorky.
Having graduated from the University of Cinematography worked at the film studio
"Lenfilm".
Director of such films as " Lonely Voice", "Eclipse Days", "Sonata for Hitler", "The
Second Circle", "Elegy", "Moscow Elegy", "Soviet Elegy", "Russian Elegy" and others.
Heads the Experimental "Young film avant-garde of the St.-Petersburg" School.
Winner of the State Russian Prize (1966).
