Skatov, Nikolay Nikolayevich
Director of the Institute of Russian
Literature (Pushkin House).
Born May 2, 1931 in Kostroma.
Graduated from the Kostroma Nekrasov Pedagogical Institute in 1953.
Worked at the Faculty of Literature of this Institute as a teacher (1956- 1962).
From 1962 Worked at the Leningrad Herzen Pedagogical Institute as a teacher and a researcher,
a senior lecturer and a professor.
Headed the Chair of Literature and Faculty of Improvement Professional skills of high school
teachers (1962- 1987).
Since 1987 has been heading the Russian Literature Institute.
Author of more than 200 research works and 17 books.
Doctor of Philology (1971), the theme "Nekrasov and Russian Lyrics of the second half of
XIX- beginning of XX century".
Member of the Presidium of the St.-Petersburg Scientific Centre of the Russian
Academy of Science.
Vice-President of the Russian Expert Council of the Superior Grading Commission.
Member of the Scientific Chair of the Russian Safety Council.
Chief Editor of the "Russian Literature" magazine.
Co-founder of the "Our City" public fund.
Awarded "For Outstanding Labour" medal (1981).
Married with son.
