Nikolsky, Nikolay Nikolayevich
Director of the Cytology Institute of the Russian Academy of Science.

Born October 9, 1931 in Leningrad. In 1954 graduated in Physiology from the Leningrad State University. Was taken on by the Cytology Institute of the Russian Academy of Science as a lab worker, as a researcher, later managed a laboratory.
Since 1988 has been Director of the Institute and simultaneously- a lab manager. In 1959 defended his dissertation on the theme "The Curve of the Strength of Duration as the Parameter of Excitability and Reaction Speed". In 1973 defended his doctoral dissertation on the theme "Sugar Adjustment in Muscles" and became Doctor of Biology. In 1990 became Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Science, and in 1991 its Full Member (academician). In 1991 was elected a member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.
The best expert in the field of Cell Biology and Cell Physiology. The first stage of his scientific researches was connected to the development of the Fundamental problems of membrane adjustment. This promoted the coming-to-be and development of the Membrane Biology in the USSR.
He was the first scientist in our country who developed extensive researches of membrane adjustment of non- electrolytes, sugar and aminoacid in cells.
Author of more than 160 research works and of 2 monographs.
Chief Editor of the "Cytology" logbook.
Member of the Communist Party from 1961 - 1991.
Awarded medals.
His twin brother is Nikolsky B.N., a writer.
