Welcome to Saint-Petersburg

OAO "Scientific Research Institute of the Precise Mechanics"

   Scientific Research Institute of the Precise Mechanics (Originally SRI (Scientific Research Institute) ¹ 137) was organized in March, 1947 for military-industrial complex needs.
   The institute has acquired its name in relation with the elaboration and production of sensors and application systems for space crafts and missile control complex. Fore more than 50 years "Scientific Research Institute of the Precise Mechanics" has been taking part almost in all national and in many international space programs, including Mars and Moon programs.
   Many project participants are decorated with orders, medals, honorary titles and state premiums. The institute itself has the Medal of Honor (1976).
   Among the systems designed by the institute are very important systems of re-entering body's parachute lowering and landing modules to the other planets (the latest invention is Mars landing device for joint French-Russian project), high-reliability micropocessor-based control systems of satellites' manipulators, systems of accident prevention for land complexes and boosters 'Proton' and 'Buran-Energy'.
   Today factory can produce butch products: science intensive systems of operation, sensors, actuating mechanisms and to conduct full circle of tests.
   1992 - 1998 reform let to preserve and strengthen scientific potential. Along with scientific and technical departments, civil departments were promoted.
   The institute has developed and implemented:

  • Complex system for accident prevention and automated control of trains (in Saint-Petersburg, Kazan, Chelyabinsk and Moscow subway);
  • Automated control of illumination 'Aurora' (Saint-Petersburg, Yakutsk, Izhevsk, Chelyabinsk etc.);
  • Control and diagnostic systems for high-voltage electric and gas complex switch-gears (Saint-Petersburg and Moscow);
  • Drinking water quality control for waterworks (Saint-Petersburg and Omsk).

   New projecting technologies, CAD system, Russian and foreign circuit technologies, production modernization, new effective methods of economic stimulation gave the institute an opportunity to achieve a success.
   Due to good quality its products are competitive. Its operation systems are sold to Belarus, India and Iraq) and its high-voltage electric and gas stations to Korea, China and Uruguay.
   Its annual turnover always grows. In 2001 it was about 140 million rubles, its stuff is about 1000 people. Their average age is 45. More than 70% have higher degree.
   Now the enterprise designs, tests, produces and assembles complex fault-tolerant microsystems.
   These systems are priority lines for the institute. It includes mechanical, assembly shops, printed circuit cards shop, inspection test section (which provides 100% quality), rigging production shop, electric devices development department, test station of the State Standart of Russia (organized in 1993) etc.
   Usually it takes less than a year from the elaboration of all technical documentation to the tests of pre-production model, that is very important for our clients.
   Now Italyantsev Sergey Viktorovich is the head of Scientific Research Institute of the Precise Mechanics.
