Born on November 28, 1960, in Krasnodar Krai.

Graduated from the economic faculty of the Leningrad Institute of Textile and Light Industry named after S.M. Kirov.

In 1985-1990 worked as a correspondent of the Smena newspaper.

In 1990 became reporter of the Komsomolskaya Pravda ("The Komsomol Truth") for Leningrad and North-West Region.

In 1993 headed the representative office of the Komsomolskaya Pravda in North-West Region.

In 1994 became director general of Komsomolskaya Pravda - St. Petersburg Company.

Irina Potekhina is chairman of the Baltic Press Association.

Married, has a daughter.
