Cherkesov Viktor Vasilievich
Head of the State Committee on the Control of illegal turnover of the drugs and psychotropic substances.
Born July 13, 1950 in Leningrad to a family of factory workers. Graduated from the Leningrad State University's Faculty of Law.
After graduation V.V. Cherkesov has been working in an investigation organization. In 1975 he has been drafted for military service by state security agencies.
V.V. Cherkesov has started working as a general investigator at the Russian Federation State Security Board's branch in charge of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region in 1992. By 1998 he has become the head of the branch.
He has become First Deputy Chief of the Federal Security Council in 1998.
General colonel since 1999.
May 19, 2000 - March 19, 2003 -- Authorized Representative of the President in the North-Western federal district.
He has been awarded the Red Star order in 1984 for the investigation of an espionage case.
From March 19, 2003 -- has been appointed the Head of the State Committee on the Control of illegal turnover of the drugs and psychotropic substances.
His wife, N.S. Cherkesova (Chaplina) is main editor of the "Rush Hour" ("Chas Pik") newspaper. V.V. Cherkesov has two children.
