Teplyakov Ilya
2nd violin, St. Petersburg String Quartet.
Born on August 31, 1966, Ilya Teplyakov has studied violin from age six. In 1973 he was accepted into the Rimsky-Korsakov School, a music academy for gifted children. After 11 years at this school, he entered the Conservatory. During the next ten years, Mr. Teplyakov also served in the army and prepared for competitions.
From 1981-1988, Ilya worked in a drama theatre as a violinist and then joined the St. Petersburg Philharmonic. During that time, he was also soloist with the Kurgan Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.
In 1988, Ilya was invited to join the quartet, which was then called the Leningrad String Quartet, where has played as second violinist ever since. From 1988, his biography reflects that of the quartet ( see The Quartet).
Ilya has been married to pianist Irina Teplyakova since 1987 and has two daughters, Veronica and Ekaterina. Besides spending time with his family, he enjoys literature and theatre. His other interests are tennis and automobiles.
