Melihov (Mejlahs) Alexandr Motel'evich
Writer, publicist.
M. Melihov was born in 1947. He had graduated from the department of Mathematics and Mechanics of the Leningrad State University. He has begun his writing career in the 1970's while working on his Master's degree. His fiction had immediately attracted widespread attention for its deep understanding of human psychology and its stylistic embellishments. Nevertheless, his writings were prosecuted by the Soviet censorship, and his first book, entitled as " The Provincial", only came out in 1986. He is also the author of "The Scales for Kindness" (1989), "Confession of a Jew" (1994), "Hunchbacked Atlantis, or the New Don Kishot" (1995), and "The Romance With the Prostate" (1997). Many of these books have entered the charts of St. Petersburg intellectual bestsellers and have received prizes of the Writers' Union of Russia and St. Petersburg PEN Club. He is also well acknowledged in publicists' circles as a history writer. His writings address intellectual readers, who receive great pleasure from reading his novels. His life-long credo has been "Never to know anything conclusively."
