Dimitrin Yuri Georgievich
Playwright.
Born in 1934 in Saint-Petersburg. Having graduated from the Chemical Technology Institute worked at a chemical plant, then at a research and planning institute. Later he abruptly changed his professional orientation and became a journalist and a playwright. Worked at a theater in Krasnoyarsk, then as an editor at the Leningrad TV station "Horizon". Had published a number of articles as a theater critic. Since 1966 worked in the musical theater dramatic composition and authored over 50 plays in this genre (original librettos, new libretto versions, translations, scenarios). About 40 operas and operettas with his librettos (originals and translations) have been staged in theaters, have become musical television films, or have come out on records. Y.Dimitrin is the author of many theater reviews and articles on librettos and musical theater, a memoir sketch about D.Shostakovich and a book. He also teaches a course "Dramaturgy of the Opera Libretto" at the Saint-Petersburg Academy of the Theater Arts. Member of the Union of Literary Specialists, Union of Theater Workers, Journalists' Union and the International Club of Saint-Petersburgers.
