The year 1857 is the year in which the first copper-rolling factory in Russia was founded. Already by the end of the XIXth century it was reputed as the monopolist in copper-rolling business. The factory had an honor to put the national seal with a two-headed eagle emblem on all its official papers and documents. The main consumers of the factory's production were large companies specializing in military and naval industries. The factory sustained its authority throughout the subsequent stages of its development, constantly remodeling and renovating its labor technologies. The formation of our domestic industry is closely tied to the name of the factory "Krasniy Viborgets" for it played the major role in a variety of enterprises, such as car-building and ship-building, as well as in metallurgical and electro-technical spheres.
   Today "Krasniy Viborgets" is a closed metallurgical plant with powerful smelting and moulding shops. It is equipped with five casting kilns and mixers for semi-continuous processing of a wide range of metal alloys. It also has special induction and vacuum welding kilns, especially designed to mould high-quality heat-durable copper ingots with chrome and other rare elements. Technical characteristics of this machinery and high standards of technological maintenance result in production of different grades of copper, brass, bronze and copper-nickel alloys.
   Rolling shop is outfitted with highly productive powerful hot and cold rolling mills, mechanized lines of strip and roll cutting, and welding lines. This organized system permits the factory to manufacture a variety of copper and bronze articles, such as metal sheets, bands, strips, and plates. "Krasniy Viborgets" is the only manufacturer in Russia producing sheets and plates which range from 50mm to 150mm in thickness, are up to 3,200mm wide and up to 9,000mm long.
   Tube rolling production is realized with the use of special hydraulic presses, modern tube rolling mills, wire-drawing machinery and finishing equipment, to produce tubes and rods. By the end of the year 2000 a completely computerized induction kiln will be assembled, which will allow to program the management of the whole technological process.
   Since 1997 we mastered production of direct electrodes for contact spot welding, as well as of disc electrodes for stitch-welding machinery, which is made out of chrome and zirconium bronzes. At the same time a new technology for precise rolling of brass was developed.
   An accredited central laboratory offers service of chemical analysis, physical and chemical testing, and identification of properties of different grades of copper alloys and left over slag and dross. The laboratory is authorized to conduct its testing and experimentation using different methods simultaneously, and its evaluations could be accepted as arbitrary.
   The Department of Ecology successfully solves problems of recycling production waste and rendering it harmless. At the base of this project lies a complex technological system which utilizes several electrochemical processes, which extract non-ferrous metals from sulfuric acids.
   The wide variety of the processes utilized and the complexity of the technology proposed open new perspectives in resolving many ecological issues and involve the industrial waste produced by other plants, which are also potential sources of environmental non-ferrous metal pollution.
   "Krasniy Viborgets" accepts non-ferrous metal scraps and waste (GOST 1639-78) for recycling.
   Currently the final stages of preparatory work aimed at the certification of the quality control system are coming to an end at "Krasniy Viborgets". The system will be in compliance with the standards of the MC ISO 9002 accredited by the international "Bureau Veritas". A contract with "BVQI" ("Bureau Veritas") for receiving an international certificate of compliance has been signed. "Quality Policies" have been confirmed by the administration of the "Krasniy Viborgets" and a "Quality Guide" has also been developed. A tracking and identification system of metal during all the stages of production - from charge to ready merchandise - has been introduced.
   Certificates of the GOST R system have also been received for 12 types of copper and copper-based products. "Krasniy Viborgets" is ready to discuss offers of investment.
