JSC "Baltiysky Factory"
Baltiysky Factory, one of the oldest shipbuilding enterprises in Russia, was founded on May 25, 1856. First Guild merchant Matthew Carr and shipbuilding engineer Marc McPherson created a new private enterprise, called Carr's and McPherson's Baltic Foundry, Mechanics and Construction Factory.
The history of the plant is tied to the history of design and construction of Russian Navy vessels: first submarines (1866-1966), armored ships and cruisers (1870, 1877, 1903, 1914). Up until 1917 the factory has built over 100 warships.
In 1925 the factory has begun a wide-scale program of commercial and military shipbuilding, which involved the construction of various ice-breakers, passenger and cargo ships, military vessels and submarines.
During World War II the factory's shipbuilders worked for the needs of soldiers at the frontline, making armaments, repairing ships, building barges for the transportation of livelihood products across Ladoga Lake to the besieged city of Leningrad.
Since 1945 the factory produced various types of warships, submarines, atomic cruisers and icebreakers, refrigerator ships, tankers, science research ships, etc.
The factory's output includes large-diameter engine screws (up to 8 m) made out of copper alloys, steam pots, steam generators, chemical equipment, heat-exchange aggregates, nuclear station equipment and various other board devices.
Over its entire history the plant has built 127 submarines, 158 above-surface warships and 215 general purpose ships.
For its contributions to the deelopment of international cooperation "Baltiysky Factory" has been awarded the international "Golden Mercury" prize.
At the present time the factory is building "50 Years After Victory" nuclear ice-breaker, chemical tankers and frigates.
The factory's technological and production potential allows it to build ships according to international norms and regulations with guaranteed quality and durability, to make complex modern board devices.
Oleg Borisovich Shulyakovsky is the present-day General Director of JSC "Baltiysky Factory".
