The State Unitary Enterprise Lengiproinzhproject is an institute designing city engineering structures. It is the leading organization in St. Petersburg executing complex designing of engineering structures, networks and communications. The institute is a division of the St. Petersburg Committee of City-Planning and Architecture and aims to provide high-quality design estimates of utilities and objects of transport infrastructure to be constructed or reconstructed.
Lengiproinzhproject is the successor of the design organization established in 1945 for solution of the most urgent social problems of post-war city reconstruction. In 1954 the institute was awarded the status of a state design institute.
The unique feature of Lengiproinzhproject is that being a multi-profile organization and having a rich experience and high intellectual potential, it actually plays the role of coordinating design centre of the whole complex of engineering and transport infrastructure of St. Petersburg.
It features system approach to solution of complex set of tasks opening engineering, ecological and economical problems.
As the result of institute's design solutions, St. Petersburg is almost normally supplied with water and energy resources. Discharge of untreated sewage has been sharply reduced; transport system has become much more developed; the level of city accomplishment has raised.
New embankments, multiple overbridges, more than 50 modern bridges (including drawbridges: Ushakovsky, Tuchkov, Grenadersky, Kantemirovsky) have finely blended with architectural landscape of the city.
Besides works on Leningrad-St. Petersburg, the institute more than two decades acted as the head office for gas-supply systems design for many cities of Russia and other republics of the former Soviet Union.
Nowadays Lengiproinzhproject is a well-equipped competitive engineering organization, which has a team of high-qualified specialists, a large reference data base, an archive of topographic and geodesic materials, an adjusted system of industrial connections.
The institute designs: main sewage disposal plant of water-supply and canalisation (including the largest, with no analogues in the world); tunnel collectors of deep lay, bridges, overbridges), embankments, inwash of new territories; all kinds of engineering networks; gasification of companies; boiler plants; power supply; installation of telephones and radios; protection of underground facilities from corrosion; city highways and their full equipment; tram lines, contact nets of trams and trolley buses.
The institute designs more than 500 objects a year, and almost all of them are important city-planning facilities. Among the latest are the Ushakovskaya Flyover, Smolnaya Embankment, Blagoveschenskaya and Birzhevaya Square, incineration installations, etc. Reconstruction of the main street of the city, Nevsky Prospect, is being completed, with granite paving and automated traffic control carried out.
The institute has made an essential contribution into ecological situation of St. Petersburg and its suburbs. A large-scope work was performed to protect the Neva River, the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea from pollution and to improve the condition of air by turning the plants to combust natural gas and improving of traffic system.
New progressive technologies are widely used while designing.
The institute works on projects that are crucial for city development in short and long terms, like "The Scheme of Arrangement of All Constructions in St. Petersburg till 2010", "The Complex Reconstruction of Blocks Built in the 60th", "Offers on Allocating of Low Building Areas", as well as on developing of territory and normative documents.
The institute is engaged in design of the most important objects to be opened by the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg. Among them are the East part of the Ring Road; the Flyover on Stachek Prospect because of the Seaport development; the Ladozhsky Railway Station; the Park of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg; engineering of Governmental residences; complex reconstruction and major repair of a number of squares, highways, bridges, embankments in the historical centre of the city. South-West Treatment Plants capable of 330 thousand cub. m. a day; water supply, drainage systems, heat and gas supply of the country resort area; reconstruction of the Botanical Gardens, etc.
High prestige of Lengiproinzhproject is confirmed by Gosstroy of the Russian Federation ("The State Building") and the Administration of St. Petersburg. During several years the institute has a leading position in the Russian construction complex. In 2001 it was awarded with the "Sign of Public Recognition" in the nomination "Contribution into Development of the City and Oblast".
