Almaz Shipbuilding Company has been producing fast ships since 1901. More than 1000 fast vessels and warships were launched during its 100-year history. Almost every innovation in Russian fast shipbuilding was developed and mastered by Almaz.
The Almaz Shipyard is situated in the central part of St. Petersburg with free access to the Gulf of Finland and covers about 165,000 sq.m including about 50,000 sq.m of well equipped shops. The personnel consists of 1000 employees.
Three building halls enable to build steel and aluminium hulls, effectively carry out outfitting works, weapons and machinery installation completely under cover. The new unique building hall of 150m long and 60m wide allows to increase the maximum displacement from 700 up to 1500 tons and cover the sector of large fast car-passenger ferries, which are in a good demand now. Two floating docks of 3000/1000 tons lifting/launching capacity effectively provide launching and lifting processes. The Yard has at it's disposal well-equipped mechanical workshop to manufacture propeller shafts and other mechanical parts.
Specializing in shipbuilding, the company nevertheless has wide diversification.
Almaz Shipbuilding Company was founded in St.-Petersburg in 1901 as Zolotoff Motorboat Yard. Since that date over a thousand vessels wood, steel and aluminium hulled were built both for military and civilian application. Since 1914 Almaz Shipbuilding Company specialises in fast patrol boats and fast attack ships. Since 1961 Almaz Shipbuilding Company has built more than 300 fast attack and patrol craft. Motor yachts for Soviet and present Russian government were built by Almaz engineers as well.
In the seventies Almaz Shipbuilding company gained facilities of Morskoy Zavod Yard ("Marine Plant") established in 1931. As the result in 1947-94 45 amphibious ships (5 of them are the world's largest hovercrafts of ZUBR class) were delivered to the Navy.
Being the world's first shipbuilder of a missile boat, the fastest hydrofoil ship and the largest hovercrafts, the company is developing new projects for new markets. In 90th marine engineers of Almaz has achieved the first real success in commercial shipbuilding, having developed a series of environmental catamarans of EcoPatrol class.
Since 1991 the yard has built more than 25 yachts, half of which were for European customers.
In 1996 Almaz Quality Management of design, construction and after-sale services was confirmed by Bureau Veritas with the Certificate of Approval in accordance with ISO 9001 standard.
