The history of Department-20 Metrostroy goes back to 1977,when SMU-20 was established to support construction of the Leningrad Metro.

In 2000 the company merged all its subsidiaries into one enterprise named Department-20 Metrostroy.

The organization was primary conceived as special-purpose, for construction and reconstruction of surface objects (depots, halls) and other general construction works.

Department-20 Metrostroy has built tens of objects: complexes of new depots for the Leningrad Metro, halls and machine rooms of a number of stations, as well as executed capital reconstruction of some stations' facades, reconstructed and built the Metrostroy's polyclinic, new administrative buildings of Repair and Mechanical Plant in Pushkin, new shops for Lentekhgas plant, built complex of pump stations for Caterpillar Plant. The Department also took place in building of houses for Metro and Metrostroy's employees.

In 1992 the company got a mining license allowing to carry out underground works. After that the company took part in construction of an interchange station, tunnels. Also a maintenance centre was built and a large scope of mining works at a special object of the Ministry of Emergencies was carried out.

the Department successfully adapted to new market conditions: it has reinforced its positions expanding its field of activity, starting to build city objects (that was comparatively easy, as the Department had formerly specialised in surface construction rather than underground works). In particular, a large scope of works was performed while reconstruction of the Treasury in St. Petersburg, the Treasury in Lomonosov (Leningrad Oblast) being constructed.

Department-20 Metrostroy was not once enlisted in preparation works and engineering services laying as a general constructor and has recommended itself as a stable and conscious construction company At present JCS Department-20 Metrostroy carries out the whole complex of general construction works, mounting and finishing works, as well as works on vertical planning, area developing, construction of railways and waterproofing works of high complexity. Separate specialized works (sanitary engineering, wiring, etc.) are executed with the help of subcontracting organizations-partners, with which the Department has established constant and reliable relations.

Belonging to Metrostroy Holding Company Department-20 Metrostroy uses not only production facilities, but also the whole potential of the holding, which extends capabilities of the company considerably and guarantees stability.

Application of new technologies helps the company to extend its list of works. Nowadays some best specialist in waterproofing works

JSC Department-20 Metrostroy has "Public Recognition-2001" diploma for its "great achievements in the professional activity".
