Established in 1990.
   Restructuring processes in Russia have coursed abrupt increasing of international contacts. More specialists and entrepreneurs began to go abroad for business. Then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to establish an organization, which would help Russian people to get a foreign passport and visa. This niche was filled by a small state firm Visa-Business established in 1990. The aim of the new organization lies in its name - an operative and guaranteed visa service, assistance in cross-border cooperation in the North-West region. The firm was established by the St. Petersburg Representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leasing company Baltic Marine Navigation, the October Railroad, Leningrad merger of Civil Aviation, City telephone network, the St. Petersburg Joint Venture Association, the St. Petersburg Committee of City Property Management, the Association of External Business Cooperation with Foreign Countries, Nauka-servis, Register, the Main Department.
   In 2000 the company celebrated its 10-year anniversary. During these years the company have passed the following stages of development:

• 1990-1992 - a small state company Visa-Business.
• since June 25, 1992 - Joint-Stock Company Visa-Business
• since April 1, 1998 - Joint-Stock Company Visa

   A shortened name better correspond to a specific character of the organization, the constant clients of which include many enterprises, creativity teams, cultural and scientific workers, educational institutions. Reorganization has affected a technological process as well: a local computer network and a data base have been organized, record keeping system has acquired a document reception department, departments of general information and additional business trips servicing.
   Visa actively cooperates with consular department of the St. Petersburg Representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The main business activity of the company is issuing of passports for travelling abroad on business, provision of deliveries to St. Petersburg general consulates and Moscow embassies, visa support of foreigners. During ten years of its existence more than half a million Russians and foreign specialists have availed themselves to Visa services.
   For its faultless functioning Joint-Stock Company Visa has been awarded with the “Sign of Public Recognition”. The company follows its slogan “geniality and honesty towards a customer” and is known in St. Petersburg and Leningrad oblast for its charity. In view of its anniversary and contribution into development of external economic relations Visa is awarded with a Diploma of the first Degree by the St. Petersburg’s Governor Vladimir Yakovlev.
   The company’s experience is being considered by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for possible application in other country regions.
   The personnel of the company consists of 100 people; the capital is debt. The major stockholders are: the St. Petersburg Committee of City Property Management, the Joint-Stock Company St. Petersburg Telephone Network, the Association of Joint Ventures, the Association of Industrial Enterprises.
   The growing geopolitical importance of St. Petersburg, its role in development of Russia’s international contacts, the forthcoming 300-year anniversary of St. Petersburg have defined the concept of Visa’s work on passport-visa provision of international contracts for the nearest years. This direction of activity remains present-day and requires further perfection.
